Commandaria Cyprus Dessert Wine
Cyprus Lawyers G. Kouzalis LLC, would like to inform you about Commandaria Cyprus Dessert Wine.
Commandaria is a celebrated dessert wine from Cyprus, produced in a historic region near the Troodos mountain range. Its origins are ancient, with references dating as far back as 800 B.C. . This sweet wine is primarily making from two grape varieties: Black (red) and Xynisteri (white). The traditional winemaking process involves drying the grapes in the sun to concentrate their sugars. Which contributes to the wine’s distinctive sweet flavor. Afterward, the grapes are pressed, and the resulting juice is fermented.
Named after the medieval area “La Grande Commanderie,” the wine has maintained its legacy through centuries. It became especially renowned during the Crusades in the 12th century and won the first recorded wine tasting competition. That was in the 13th century, known as the “Battle of the Wines.”
Today, Commandaria enjoys the status of a protected product with a controlled designation of origin within the European Union.
No visit to the island is complete without a bottle of Commandaria to accompany you back home as a sweet memento of the island’s history!
