G KOUZALIS LLC would like to give you the below advise when signing a power of attorney for use in Cyprus. Furthermore, then you appoint someone to represent you in Cyprus using a power of attorney, it is VITAL that you sign and certify the document correctly.  Also, if you do not sign it and certify it correctly then it could create numerous issues for you and may mean you have to repeat the process. Firstly, you should ensure that your details are correct. (SPELLING OF NAME. PASSPORT / IDENTITY DOCUMENTS & ADDRESS). Then you should print the document and it should be signed as follows:

Signing a power of attorney in Cyprus:

Visit your local notary / certifying officer and sign the document in their presence. (you need to take your id / passport with you). Also, the cost for certification varies, but is usually no more than a few euros per document.

Signing abroad:

When you sign the power of attorney you have 2 options:

  1. Signing at a local CYPRUS EMBASSY/ CONSULATE.

You then need to arrange to sign the document in their presence. The cost for certification varies and you should enquire locally.

  1. Signing a power of attorney at a notary public and Apostilling the document.

Also, if you do not want to visit an embassy you can arrange to visit a notary public and sign the document in their presence. You should inform the notary that you need the documents apostilling for use abroad and they should be able to assist you in arranging this. Please note that there is a cost for apostilling the document and you should enquire locally for this. Please note, Powers of attorney cannot be signed in the presence of: Bank Managers, Doctors, Vets, Etc. The Power of Attorney must be signed in the presence of a notary public and apostilled or signed at a CYPRUS EMBASSY/ CONSULATE.
